B. Somashekar BANGALORE: The president of the State unit of the Janata Dal (United), B. Somashekar, has called for the formation of a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in the State. M.P. Prakash, who was negotiating with the Congress to form a government, should give it up, join the JD(U) and share power with the Bharatiya Janata Party, he said. Mr. Somashekar, addressing a press conference here on Saturday, said that Mr. Prakash would have to create conditions suitable for ushering in an NDA government in the State by breaking away from the JD(S). He should stop the JD(S) and the family that controls it from making its MLAs a “marketable lot”. Whoever was in the JD(S) belonged to the JD(U). They should all come back to the party to provide the State with a democratic government free from individualistic and feudalistic elements, he said. ‘Important role’He said Mr. Prakash’s role at this juncture was very important. Joining hands with the Congress again would be a mistake because the Congress was trying to destroy the Janata Parivar in the State. Mr. Prakash should not give the Congress any chance to weaken the Janata Parivar. He said he had met Mr. Prakash on Friday. Though the JD(S) leader had not promised anything on joining the JD(U) and forming a government, he appeared to be open to all options. Mr. Prakash had agreed that MLAs were not in favour of mid-term elections. Mr. Somashekar said the JD(S) leadership was using Mr. Prakash as bait to lure the Congress into yet another alliance. He said the NDA government in Bihar under Nitish Kumar had done well in the past two years and a similar arrangement in Karnataka would be beneficial. National leaders of the JD(U) such as Sharad Yadav have promised that they would talk to the BJP national leadership if the JD(S) MLAs re-united under the JD(U). He and his party MLAs would soon meet the Governor and discuss the political situation in the State, he added.
