Businessman rescued from militants’ clutches
Srinagar: A businessman held captive by Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) militants for over two days in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district was rescued by police on Saturday. The businessman was rescued after an exchange of fire between his abductors and police, DIG (Kupwara) B Srinivas said.
Abductors
He said the four abductors, who all managed to flee, demanded a ransom of Rs.5 lakh to free the hostage who along with a policeman was wounded in the operation.
Acting on a tip-off, a police party, assisted by CRPF personnel, reached Rangwar forests where the businessman was held captive and rescued him from the clutches of HuM ultras.
The businessman, who received a bullet wound in his shoulder during the exchange of fire, was admitted to a hospital. A militant was also wounded in the gunfight, the DIG said adding all the abductors, however, managed to escape. He said the police team which rescued the businessman was awarded Rs.50,000 for the act of bravery.- PTI
