CHANDIGARH: The Indian National Students’ Organisation (INSO) has strongly condemned the description of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh as a “terrorist” in a question which appeared in the General Studies Paper I of the Civil Services Mains Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Friday. INSO activists led by its Haryana unit president Vikas Rathee, Panjab University campus president Deepak Hooda and INSO vice-president Sunny Bhardwaj expressed their anger by staging a demonstration and burning an effigy of the UPSC Chairperson. They have also demanded immediate dismissal of the UPSC Chairperson over “this dishonour to our martyrs”. The question reportedly asked the students to evaluate the contribution of “revolutionary terrorism” represented by Bhagat Singh to the cause of India’s struggle for independence. Mr. Rathee said in a statement that the phrase “revolutionary terrorism” in the question was highly misleading and derogatory to the supreme sacrifices made by freedom fighters.
