‘I have great respect for Prakash’

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Saturday said he would try to convince M.P. Prakash to accept the decision of the Janata Dal (Secular) to extend support to the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Participating in an interaction with the public on a private news channel, Mr. Kumaraswamy said, “I see him as a father figure and have tremendous respect for him.” The JD(S) does not want to lose the senior leader, who is attempting to form a government with the Congress, he said.

“I would have agreed with Mr. Prakash’s attempts if he had spoken to responsible leaders in the Congress on the formation of a government. But he has been speaking to local leaders like Siddaramaiah, Ramesh Kumar and B.L. Shankar. Can these leaders convince the Congress high command?” he asked. In their attempts to split the JD(S), the local Congress leaders had used Mr. Prakash as a scapegoat, he added.
