MPTC members to launch agitation

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD : Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) members will take up an agitation from November 1 demanding devolution of powers to panchayat raj institutions and fulfilment of their demands which the State Government had conceded in February.

The decision to launch the agitation was taken at a meeting of the AP MPTCs Association here on Saturday. Presiding over the meeting, Y. Babu Rajendra Prasad said Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had been promising transfer of ten powers to the local bodies ever since he assumed office. But, he was repeatedly postponing the exercise.
