Parumala Pilgrim Week begins

PATHANAMTHITTA: The annual pilgrimage to the tomb of St. Gregorios at St. Paul’s and St. Peter’s Church in Parumala began on Saturday.

The senior Metropolitan of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Geevarghese Mar Osthathios inaugurated the Pilgrim Week celebrations. Paulose Mar Pachomios, Metropolitan of the Mavelikara diocese of the Church, delivered the benedictory speech. Jiji Thomson, IAS, Alexander Karackal, former Church secretary, and Fr. M.D. John, Parumala Seminary manager, also spoke. Hundreds of faithful attended the function.

Paulose Mar Pachomios was the chief celebrant of the tri-mass held at 8.30 a.m. Yuhanon Mar Chrysostomos, Metropolitan of Niranom diocese, will be the chief celebrant of the tri-mass to be held at 7.30 a.m. on Sunday. District Collector Raju Narayanaswamy will deliver the keynote address at a youth meet to be held in the afternoon.

Catholicos-designate Paulose Mar Milithios will be the chief celebrant of the tri-mass on Monday morning.

The second anniversary of the installation of the Catholicos of the East Baselios Mar Thoma Didymos I will be celebrated at 10.30 am on Tuesday. Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi will inaugurate the public meeting and the Catholicos-designate will preside over the function.

The feast of St. Gregorios will be celebrated on November 2.
