Chidambaram: put ideology aside

Mumbai: Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said on Saturday that the country can achieve 10 per cent economic growth but will have to “put ideology aside” as it was holding back crucial reforms.

“It is not politically correct to talk about ideology today. It is ideology which is holding us back for doing the things which have to be done in order to accelerate the growth,” Mr. Chidambaram said at the Economic Times awards function here. “I want to see 10 per cent before the tenure of this government; I want to see 10 per cent if not in 2007-08 then at least in the financial year 2008-09. That is possible if we can put ideology aside,” he said. — PTI
