THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Andhra won the South Zone under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy cricket tournament after rain forced an abrupt end to the Andhra-Hyderabad match on Friday. Andhra finished the six-team tournament with 18 points and along with Hyderabad (17) points, qualified for the all-India tournament. Tamil Nadu and rain quashed Karnataka’s hopes of qualifying at the Agriculture College ground. Chasing 260 for a win, Tamil Nadu was 116 for two in 22.2 overs when rain stopped play. Tamil Nadu was declared the winner by 16 runs according to the VJD method. The scores: Andhra 177 for nine in 50 overs (T.K. Ganesh Kumar 42) vs. Hyderabad 42 for one in 14 overs. No result. Karnataka 259 in 49.4 overs (Manish Pandey 75, K. Nair 71, Nithin Bille 67, Sooraj three for 44) lost to Tamil Nadu 116 for two in 22.2 overs (A. Mukund 56 not out, N. Einstein 52). TN won by 16 runs through VJD method. Goa 139 in 39.2 overs (A.P. Shirodkar 46) lost to Kerala 108 for two in 26 overs. Kerala won by 51 runs through VJD method. Final placings: 1. Andhra (18 points), 2. Hyderabad (17), 3. Karnataka (12), 4. Tamil Nadu (11), 5. Kerala (4), 6. Goa (-2).
