Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: Deputy Commissioner of Police (Thiruvananthapuram City) M. Abdul Wahab on Saturday suspended four policemen who were assigned to guard imprisoned ‘gang leader’ Kannanmoola Rajesh. The suspended policemen were, head constable Johnny and constables Rajan, Suresh Kumar and Jawahar Kumar. Rajesh, who was imprisoned in June under the provisions of the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention (Act), is being treated for ‘tuberculosis of the hip’ at the Chest Diseases Hospital, Pulayanarkottai. He was admitted to the hospital on October 8. Mr. Wahab said the policemen had allowed visitors, mostly crime case suspects, to meet Rajesh. Circle Inspector (Medical College) V. Suresh Kumar had conducted a surprise inspection at the hospital on Friday afternoon. He found Rajesh loitering outside the prisoner’s cell with four crime case suspects. He arrested the suspects and reported the matter to Mr. Wahab. Out of the four policemen detailed as guards, only one was present at the time of the inspection. The CI seized two bottles of liquor from the guard who was later medically examined and found inebriated.
