Government Railway Police terms him as a ‘hi-tech thief’ He was trying to stealing a laptop in the AC-II coach of a train VISAKHAPATNAM: A Deputy Superintendent of Police (Armed reserve) is cooling his heels in lock-up for allegedly turning into a habitual thief. Termed by the Government Railway Police as a ‘hi-tech thief,’ he was caught red-handed while stealing a laptop and several other items at Duvvada railway station on Saturday in the AC-II coach of a train. The GRP produced him before the in-charge MRO on Sunday. He will be sent for remand after being produced before the Railway Magistrate on Monday. P. Appa Rao, the accused, works as a DSP at Nizamabad. He is a native of Venkojipalem in the city and keeps shuttling from Nizamabad in Godavari, Visakha and Nizamabad express trains in first and second AC coaches. “On growing suspicious about his activity, we kept surveillance on him during his journeys and caught him red-handed,” GRP DSP K. Jagga Rao told The Hindu. Police said that he used to get into trains on different names and lift suitcases as well as bedsheets, napkins, digital cameras, watches and laptops. During his production before in-charge MRO, Rao said it was a cooked-up case and he would prove his innocence before the magistrate. Mr. Jagga Rao said that following interrogation, they had recovered several items from his house in the city and at other places. Fancy for costly stuff Nizamabad Staff Reporter writes: Appa Rao is said to have a fancy for valuable articles. Belonging to the 1982 batch of Reserve Sub-Inspectors he was promoted and posted here as Deputy SP just six months ago. He has been on medical leave for the last one month, said the Nizamabad SP, adding “we have some information about his operations”.
