Special Correspondent

VILLUPURAM: Collector Branjendra Navnit on Sunday gave away household articles, including utensils and pots, to 63 persons from Saravanapakkam, who were affected by the recent communal clashes at Ulundurpet.

A clash broke out between them and the people of Periasevalai on September 22.

To avoid further clashes owing to retaliation, some families from Saravanapakkam have been accommodated in Sarada Ashram, Ulundurpet.

MLA K. Thirunavukkarsu appealed to all communities to give up enmity and live in amity.

Revenue Divisional Officer K. Leela and tahsildar Ranganathan were present.

Later, the Collector inspected the Ulundurpet Police Battalion Ground, the venue for an Army recruitment rally to be held from October 31 to November 6.
