NEW DELHI: Five young men have been arrested by the Special Staff of South-West Delhi police on charges of involvement in cases of auto-lifting. The police claim to have recovered six stolen cars and two motorcycles, eight blank vehicle registration books and several blank forms at the instance of the accused. Acting on a tip-off that Manoj, who ran a mobile phone accessory shop at Palam Vihar, was involved in auto-lifting, a police team led by ACP (Operation Cell) Dinesh Kumar Gupta mounted surveillance on him. He was arrested about a week ago when he was travelling in a stolen Maruti Wagon-R car in Najafgarh. The vehicle was found stolen from Ludhiana earlier this month. During interrogation, Manoj purportedly confessed to his involvement in auto-theft cases. He told the police that he worked for a gang headed by Raj Kumar, a scrap dealer at Muktsar in Punjab. Cars stolen from PunjabAccording to the police, Raj Kumar and his accomplice Bikramjeet Singh stole more than 15 cars from different parts of Punjab and handed them over along with blank vehicle registration books and other related documents to Manoj to dispose them of. At Manoj’s instance, the police arrested the other gang members, Raj Kumar, Kamal, Manwesh and Bikramjeet, and recovered the rest of the stolen vehicles from them.
