IUML activist stabbed

KASARAGOD: An activist of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) was stabbed and properties of IUML activists were destroyed in a violence at Vadakaramukku, Kanhangad in the district on Saturday night and Sunday.

The IUML alleged that CPI(M) activists were behind the attacks.

The area had been witnessing clashes between activists of both the parties for the last few days.

The police said that IUML activist Palat Ibrahim was attacked on Sunday noon by a group of armed people at T.B. Road, Kanhangad.

Ibrahim suffered injuries in his head and was admitted to a private hospital at Mangalore.

Vehicles destroyed

Four vehicles were destroyed and a shop of an IUML activist was vandalised in the violence at Vadakaramukku on Saturday night. The destroyed vehicles belonged to IUML leaders. The police registered cases in connection with the attacks.

Hartal

Meanwhile, the UDF observed a hartal at Palakkunnu and Uduma areas on Sunday to protest against attacks on IUML activists.

Shops and business establishments in the area remained closed.
