KOLLAM: The Kerala State Pollution Control Board (PCB) has issued closure intention notice to English Indian Clays Limited questioning the operations of the Velichikala unit of the company, near here, in violation of the Water Act. The notice, issued on October 26, states that the PCB proposes to issue directions under Section 33 of the Act ‘for the closure, prohibition or regulation of the unit or to direct the appropriate authority to cause the closure of the unit.’ The notice mentions that during the PCB inspection of the unit it was found that the unit was discharging waste water without conforming to PCB standards. Moreover, there was unauthorised discharge from the effluent treatment plant which was in a dilapidated condition, the notice said.
