Second anniversary of Catholicos’ installation

Union Minister Vayalar Ravi to inaugurate function today

PATHANAMTHITTA: Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi will inaugurate the second anniversary celebrations of the installation of Baselios Mar Thoma Didymos I as Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan at a function to be held on the Parumala church premises on Monday.

The Catholicos will disburse Rs.20,000 each to 50 girls, towards matrimonial assistance on the occasion. Catholicos-designate Paulose Mar Milithios will preside over the meeting, according to programme committee convener Biju Oommen.

The St. Paul’s and St. Peter’s Church at Parumala which houses the tomb of St. Gregorios witnessed heavy rush on Sunday. Hundreds of believers offered prayers at the Saint’s tomb. The Metropolitan of the Niranom diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, Yuhanon Mar Chrysostomos, was the chief celebrant of the holy

tri-mass held in the morning. Mar Chrysostomos inaugurated a youth meet held at the church auditorium, later in the afternoon. The annual pilgrim week, in connection with the 105th feast of St. Gregorios, began on Saturday. Pilgrimage processions to the saint’s tomb, coming from different parts of the country, will reach Parumala on

Thursday and Friday. The 105th feast of St. Gregorios, popularly known as Parumala Tirumeni, will be held on Friday. Yakoob Mar Ireneus of the Chennai diocese of the Church will be the chief celebrant of the holy Eucharist to be held at the church at 4 a.m.

Thomas Mar Athanasius of the Chengannur diocese will lead the holy Eucharist at the nearby chapel at 6 a.m. The Catholicos will lead the holy tri-mass at the church, later, at 8.30 am. The Malankara Metropolitan will inaugurate the Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Students’ Movement annual meet at 11 a.m.

Prasar Bharati Director George Varghese will deliver the keynote address on the occasion. Philipose Mar Eusebeus of the Thumpamon diocese will preside over the meeting.
