Drinking water is very precious and it is very precious. Everyone, including the State and Central Governments must propagate the need to conserve drinking water and harvesting of rain water. Sadly in Warangal city, drinking water is being wasted at many places. In Azam Jahi Mills Colony, beside Hanuman Temple, the drinking water pipe is leaking at two places for the past six month – with none of the municipal wings caring to attend to it. Likewise, in front of Warangal Head Post Office, the water pipe was broken three months ago and the repairs are yet to be taken up. Hope the authorities wake up from their slumber and attend to the problem. M. Velangani, Warangal Stop raggingThis is with reference to the news item ‘Desist from ragging, students told’ in your esteemed daily news paper The Hindu dated 6.10.07. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that that raging has become a common phenomenon in most of the professional colleges. Though time and again the college authorities and the local administration caution the students against indulging in ragging students are continuing with it. Ragging is an anti-social activity which may break the hearts of the junior students and bring broad division among students community. So, students should work for the elimination of the inexcusable act. Dr. M. Nazeeruddin, Kurnool More buffaloesThis refers to the news item ‘Consignment of milch cattle under ‘Pasukranti’ arrives,’ in The Hindu, dated 20.10.2007. The efforts undertaken in importing 592 ‘murra’ breed buffoloes from Punjab to Kurnool are laudable. Such schemes will facilitate the beneficiaries certainly to enhance their livelihood standards in the State. But, as each buffalo costs Rs.32,000 the burden is bit more on the beneficiary as they also have to spend Rs.35 to 40 on fodder for each buffalo in spite of the subsidy given. We hope the Government considers relaxation in the cost and undertake periodic checks of the buffaloes. We hope the Government imports more of ‘murra’ and ‘jersey’ breed in future. G. Jagannadh, Anantapur
