Sugar factory assures ryots of paying arrears

Sangareddy: Following hours of deliberations between sugarcane farmers and the Fasalwadi-based Ganapathi Sugar Mills here on Sunday, the management agreed to pay the arrears, provided there is a substantial hike in the sugar prices. The management has assured the farmers to pay Rs. 1,225 per tonne in three phases during 2006 crushing season. The farmers at that time demanded Rs. 1,400 per tonne. However, the third part payment of Rs. 75 is yet to be paid. With the new crushing season fast approaching the farmers started demanding for the balance amount. The management, which met the farmers twice in recent times, has been telling that they withheld the amount following the fall in sugar prices. The total amount due to farmers is around Rs 5.40 crore. The management has told the farmers that they would share the profits with them on a 50:50 ratio.
