Shimla: In an environment-friendly step, the Election Commission has asked the political parties to desist from using plastic materials and minimise noise and air pollution during the assembly election in Himachal Pradesh. “We have asked all the political parties to shun use of plastic materials in making flags and polythene bags and also minimise noise and air pollution in campaigning for the Assembly elections in the Himachal Pradesh,” Chief Electoral Officer Manisha Nanda said on Sunday. The representatives of the political parties were also told about these issues during a meeting at district level. Ms. Nanda said plastic materials lead to pollution hence its use should be avoided. — PTI
