Water supply

Sir, — It was disheartening to see a large number of people in dire need of drinking water protest against the lack of it in front of the office of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, in Phase 1, J.P. Nagar, recently. It has been extremely difficult to procure potable water in some areas . Despite continued protests and appeals by the people, no action has been taken to redress the grievance. Official negligence should be taken cognisance of and immediate steps should be taken to correct the situation.

Street lights

Sir, — Most street light switches in Kalyan Nagar (ward 88) are not in working condition. They are currently being operated by connecting live wires, which is not only dangerous, but a great risk for residents, as miscreants can turn off power supply at will. The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike should have quality timer switches installed wherever required and lock them securely.

Road widening

Sir, —The green cover in the city is getting depleted by the day. Tree felling is being taken to extremes in the name of development. Road widening is meaningless in the context of traffic in Bangalore, where most people have no concern for etiquette while on the road. Traffic jams are bound to occur even after such infrastructural changes. In the name of easier access to the Bangalore International Airport, trees are being cut between Mekhri Circle and Hebbal.

Untimely transfers

Sir, — Despite there being clearly defined norms with regard to mid-year transfers of officials in the State, they continue to be replaced without substantive cause.

Despite President’s Rule being in force, many officials in the Department of Forests, the Public Works, and Excise have been transferred.

Governor Rameshwar Thakur should put an end to such practices immediately, as tremendous inconvenience is caused to families of officials even as development work gets affected. Mid-year transfers should not be effected unless backed by strong proofs of dereliction of duty or in the interest of public welfare.
