Withdrawal of compulsory transfer policies sought Companies urged to begin talks on pay scale revision SALEM: The Coimbatore Region General Insurance Employees’ Association has urged the Union government to merge all the four public sector general insurance companies. A resolution to this effect was adopted at the district conference which was organised by the Salem Namakkal district committee of the association here on Saturday. Members said that the merger would help face the competition and ensure growth, the association said. In another resolution that was passed at the district conference, members urged the managements of the public sector general insurance companies to withdraw the compulsory transfer policies. The companies should begin talks with the trade unions regarding the revision of pay scale. Bonus should be provided to all the employees without any ceiling, was another demand made by the association. VacanciesThe companies should initiate immediate steps to fill up all the vacancies. A number of posts remained vacant for the past 15 years, they claimed. Members also urged the Union government to introduce the Womens Reservation Bill in Parliament and pass it. The association expressed its support for the one-day strike called by the Central and State government employees on October 31. Members elected M. Sivabalan as the president of the district committee. The following persons were elected office-bearers: Secretary T.S. Sundaram, Treasurer G. Dwarakanathan, Vice-President V. Nalini and Joint Secretary V. Kasthuri Rangan.
