Government urged to ensure continuous operation of paper mill
It currently provides employment to about 700 workers, says association
NAMAKKAL: Members of the Kabilar Samooga Munnetra Sangam staged a demonstration in Kabilarmalai near here recently urging the State Government to direct the management of a private paper mill that was located in the area to ensure that workers were able to work in three shifts instead of the present single-shift work schedule.
They claimed that the operation of three shifts would enable the mill to increase its production capacity to 3,500 tonnes of paper.
In addition to this, they also demanded that the Government take action against those trying to stall the functioning of the mill citing environmental issues.
They said that the mill was employing about 700 workers.

Several people was able to get indirect employment opportunities because of the functioning of the mill.
The Government should ensure continuous operation of the mill, which had set up a treatment plant and achieved zero discharge status, they claimed.
