Kottayam
KOTTAYAM: Two constables of the Armed Police here have been suspended for allegedly using third-degree methods against the first accused in the killing of an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) during violence on the NSS Hindu College campus at Changanassery. Thomas Stanly and Ajith Kumar are from the fifth battalion of the Armed Police. Superintendent of Police S. Sreejith recommended their suspension on Saturday evening after the First Class Judicial Magistrate Court found that the accused, Biju, needed medical attention and was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital here on Saturday evening. The fourth accused, Jyothish, an epilepsy patient, was moved to the hospital from the Kottayam sub-jail on Sunday. Biju underwent a minor nasal surgery on Sunday to remove a blood clot, hospital sources said. The surgery was done in the ward. O. Rajagopal, Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Union Minister of State for Railways, visited the accused in the hospital. Later, he told presspersons that his party did not expect justice from investigations conducted by State agencies, as it was clear from the developments so far that they were moving with prejudice. “As such, we want an investigation by central agencies, such as the Central Bureau of Investigation,” he said. Party district leaders were present.
