NEW DELHI: With a view to throw light on the rich but relatively lesser known history of the Rajput era in Delhi, the Archaeological Survey of India is currently engaged in conducting structural clearances in the Mehrauli area around Qutub Minar complex to make it more accessible for interested citizens to visit and know more about the era. The Superintending Archaeologist of ASI (Delhi Circle), D. V. Sharma, said: “The first city of Delhi known as Lal Kot and the second city of Delhi known as Qila Rai Pithora were founded by the Tomars and the Chauhans respectively, who belonged to the two Rajput dynasties that ruled Delhi between 6th and 10th Century A.D.” “Their history is not known to many. Though Delhi has several monuments of the Rajput era dated between 6th and 10th Century A.D., these are scattered. So we are now endeavouring to make the valuable historical remains of this Rajput era in Delhi accessible to all those citizens,” he added.
