dated October 29, 1957: Youth Congress meet

Prime Minister Nehru on October 27 called on the youth of the country to learn discipline, self-restraint and dignity of labour as they were to bear the brunt of the battle for re-constructing the edifice of a prosperous India in the near future. The Prime Minister, who was inaugurating the second all-India convention of the Youth Congress at the newly-built sports stadium in Lucknow, said: “India lives in villages and you are to spread out to villages, as India will progress only if the villages prosper.” Linguistic quarrels, provincialism, casteism and narrowness of outlook would weaken the country.
