dated October 29, 1957: Call for protest

The East Pakistan Awami League, the ruling party in the Province, has called for a protest day to be observed on November 8 to express resentment over the new Pakistan Government’s proposal to re-introduce separate electorate. The Pakistan National Congress Executive Committee, at its meeting in Dacca on October 25, passed a resolution expressing its “grave concern and indignation over attempts being made to reverse Parliament’s previous decision in favour of joint electorate, and re-introduce separate electorate.”
