Letters to the Editor
To say that I am shocked by Tehelka’s exposé on the 2002 Gujarat riots is an understatement. I am horrified. Especially about the way they were “caught” bragging about the way they dismembered limbs, ripped open a pregnant woman’s stomach, and burnt people alive. Ramesh Waghmare, Mumbai The sting operation should be taken seriously. The Centre and law-enforcement agencies have the responsibility of taking the Tehelka tapes as prima facie evidence to ensure that the guilty are brought to justice. P. Senthil Saravana Durai, Vazhavallan The BJP’s accusation that the timing of the Tehelka exposé suggests that it is aimed at impacting the Assembly election in Gujarat holds no water and appears to be an attempt to redeem itself in the eyes of the masses. It is the worst kind of human rights violation and subversion of the rule of law. The BJP should respond to the revelations and should not shirk its responsibility by merely stating that it is a pre-election trick of the Congress. T.V. Ramamurthy, Chennai It is for every citizen of the country to reject the poisonous power-politics of the BJP and contribute his or her mite towards establishing communal harmony everywhere. “Live and let others live peacefully” should be the national motto. I.A. Siddiqui, Hyderabad The anti-Modi “mafia” has shown that it will go to any extent to unseat Mr. Modi. But it is highly irresponsible of the media to give undue importance to this obvious mud-slinging campaign. Vijayalakshmi G., Chennai Why did Tehelka take so long to make the sting operation public? Unless it explains the delay, there is a danger of people viewing the entire operation as being politically motivated. Vasa Srinivasa Murthy, Visakhapatnam
