Bid for consensus

Kathmandu: Top leaders of Nepal on Sunday met informally before a scheduled meeting to arrive at a consensus on the political deadlock ahead of the special session of Parliament to debate the Maoists’ demand for a new political system. A crucial meeting of ruling coalition and the Maoists has been scheduled for Sunday on the eve of the session. The top leaders, who have gathered at Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koiral’s residence are busy holding informal consultations before the crucial meeting between the six ruling parties and the Maoists, said Nepali Congress vice-president Gopal Man Shrestha. The leaders of the three major parties, the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist were holding separate consultations before starting the formal meeting among the ruling alliance. Top leaders of the seven parties including the Prime Minister and Nepali Congress president Koirala, Maoist chairman Prachanda and UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal are engaged in hectic discussions. — PTI
