MEG-BEML super league match abandoned

BANGALORE: The super league football match between MEG and BEML (Earth Movers) was abandoned due to bad light at the BDFA Stadium here on Sunday.

The teams were locked 1-1 with Gopi putting BEML ahead in the seventh minute and Lokeshwar Singh equalising for MEG in the 36th minute.

After the break, the light started fading fast and in the 85th minute, referee stopped the play and after a brief discussion, announced the abandonment of the match. The BDFA tournament committee which met immediately decided that the match will be re-played at a later date.

Earlier in a lopsided ‘A’ division encounter, Tilak Memorial FC outplayed Sree Gajanana FC 8-1. Christopher scored three goals for Tilak while the other scorers were Kiran (2), Nitish Kumar, Karunakaran and Erison. Girish reduced the margin. In a ‘C’ division match at the ITI grounds, Rangers defeated BEML 3-0. Bhanu, Suresh and Satish scored.

A former player, Jawa Peter presented BDFA with a showcase and it was formally installed at the BDFA Stadium in the presence of past and present footballers of the State.

Easy for MEG, KSP

MEG and KSP posted facile wins in the State ‘A’ division basketball league championship at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium courts here on Sunday. MEG defeated JSC 64-48 while, KSP beat Beagles 64-42. In the other matches, ASC humbled Koramangala BC 62-55 and Sports Hostel prevailed over NAL Colony 65-59.

Khalin Joshi dazzles

Khalin Joshi with a score of 147 gross, emerged champion in the open event of the Karnataka Golf Association’s championship here. Khalin also won the team event partnering Amitabh Poddar with the duo aggregating 305 gross.

The other winners: Anjali Mandal (stableford handicap event), Teruku Thimmarayappa (ladies handicap event) and A.D. Madanna (veterans).

Mahima wins title

Mahima Agarwal bagged the girls’ under-10 singles title in the Mysore Sandal State-ranking badminton championship here on Sunday. In the final, Mahima beat K. Deepali 21-5, 21-12. Mahima, however went down to Priya Prakash 17-21, 10-21 in the girls under-13 singles quarterfinals.

The results (quarterfinals): Boys: U-10 singles: Mithun Manjunath bt Adiya Padiwal 21-6, 21-3; Vignesh bt Abi Amudan 21-12, 21-16; Abhishek bt M. Raghu 21-19, 21-17.

U-13 singles: Rakhshith bt Vinay Bharadwaj 21-6, 21-9; M.C. Srivas bt B.R. Sankeerth 21-16, 21-8; Sudeep Suresh bt Harshith 21-18, 21-15; B.V. Kiran bt Vashista 21-14, 21-18.

U-16 singles: R.N. Suraj bt K.V. Rakshith 21-11, 21-11; Jayant Gowda bt Chirag 11-21, 21-16, 21-18; Akshay bt M. Karthik 21-7, 19-21, 21-19; Sai Praneeth bt M.P. Appanna 21-13, 21-17.

Girls: U-13 singles: Reshma Karthik bt Aashi Gupta 21-4, 21-5; Mira bt K. Nidhi 21-14, 21-14; Priya prakash bt Mahima 21-17, 21-10; B. Sindhu bt S.K. Parvathy 21-4, 21-10.

Shreyas triumphs

Shreyas and Maithreyee Bailoor won the cadet boys’ and cadet girls’ singles titles respectively in the Bangalore Rural District Table Tennis Association’s State-level tournament here on Sunday. Shreyas defeated Vedant M. Urs 11-9, 11-8, 11-6 in the boys’ final, while Maithreyee beat Madhurya 11-7, 11-6, 11-6 in the girls’ final.

St. Paul’s posts win

At Hubli, St. Paul’s School (Hubli) defeated Rotary English Medium High School by four wickets in a super league match of the KSCA’s Dharwad Zone under-13 inter-school cricket tournament on Sunday.
