KOCHI: The State Human Rights Commission has asked for a report on an accident in which an employee of Kochi Refineries Limited was killed after being hit by a Highway Patrol jeep at Palarivattom here on Saturday. The Commission has asked Additional Director General of Police (South Zone) V.R. Rajeevan to file the report before November 5, Justice N. Dhinakaran, chairman of the Commission, said. The action was taken on the basis of media reports, he said. The accident created tense moments at Palarivattom after public, led by K. Babu, MLA, protested against alleged delay on the part of police in taking the victim to hospital. The protestors also alleged that the police used force to disperse the crowd that was disrupting traffic along the National Highway. City Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham had asked Assistant Commissioner of Police (Control Room) M.T. Scaria to file a report on the incident, following the intervention of Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy. While the Commissioner said that the report was not ready as witnesses were engaged in the funeral of the deceased, Mr. Scaria is understood to have submitted the report on Sunday evening.
