Apropos the suggestion of Ravi. S. (synchronising train timings ) The Hindu dated 17.9.07, I may add that it is beyond the capacity of the Railways to implement it. However, they can at least look into another genuine grievance of the commuters. Passengers who arrive from different parts of the country and alight at the three main railway station (viz) Secunderabad, Kacheguda or Nampally and who have to go to suburban places like Jamai Osmania, Alwal or Falaknuma now have four options : (i) go to the ticket counter and purchase a ticket to board the suburban local train whenever it is available (ii) go to the nearest bus stop with all your luggage and catch a bus (iii) go to an auto stand and pay a fortune to reach home or (iv) board the readily available suburban local train, which is on the adjacent platform, without a valid ticket. Since the last option is not acceptable to either the law abiding citizen or to the Railways, I request the authorities, to allow ‘incoming’ passengers to travel in the available local train to reach their actual destination on the same ticket or open ticket counters manned or automatic similar to that of a weighing machine on the respective platforms to mitigate the suffering of millions of passengers. M.V.H.Rao, Alwal Steps to end terrorismTerror is a bane to the nation. It takes away the peace and makes citizens live in constant fear of terrorists, besides hampering the progress in all spheres of life. Therefore it is paramount for the Governments and the people to take the leading step to end terrorism. For this an action-oriented programme should be framed based on preventive measures so that terrorists will fail in their attempts. For this only two bold steps may be taken. Firstly, the source of assistance – both financial and material to sustain terrorist acts should be curbed at the root. Secondly, all State Governments should form squads in the affected areas to crush terrorism. C.H.C. Nayak, BHEL R&D Township Misplaced sympathy? This is with regard to the agitation taken up by the Human Rights activists on the encounter in Vizag after the murder of Bank of India Manager. These people have so much sympathy on the culprits, but not on the poor bank manager who lost his life, leaving his wife, children, parents and kin in agony. As rightly pointed out by our former Prime Minister P.V.Narasimha Rao, in India Human Rights exist for terrorists, naxalites, dacoits, goondas and not for law-abiding citizens. I support the VSP Police Commissioner for his bold act. Ironically, these activists are not concerned with the deaths of common man due to elephants nuisance in their neighbouring districts of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam. Why cannot they take up this issue with the animal activists who too don’t care about human beings, but support animals like dogs, snakes, monkeys, elephants etc? I therefore request the Government and other organisations to support police in this regard. S.L.N.Murthy, Srinagar Colony
