Traffic jams

Festival is the time when people get relieved of their tensions and spend time in a meaningful way. But, Dasara festival has given a different experience to people of Vijayawada and Guntur. The residents of One Town area were caught amidst frequent traffic jams and employees, who had to shuttle between Vijayawada and Guntur, faced a lot of inconvenience during the 10 days. The traffic plan was not good and too many restrictions on vehicular movements in places like Canal Road and Prakasam Barrage (though the pilgrim rush was not so high on many days) irked many people. I request the officials to keep in view the plight of common people before chalking out such plans.

Laudable effort

The three-day classical music festival conducted by the city-based Swarajhari cultural organisation at Sivaramakrishna Kshetram is a laudable effort. The festival, which coincided with Dasara celebrations, offered a feast to the ears of music lovers. Recital of ‘Kritis’ on goddess Kanakadurga, performance on vena and midangam by noted artistes enthralled people during the three days. One must appreciate the efforts of the organisers, who adhered strictly to the timetable and conducted all the programmes in time. I hope the organisation would conduct many such concerts for the benefit of the connoisseurs of music.

Curb black marketing of cinema tickets

The arrest of manager of a cinema theatre at Governorpet in connection with black marketing of tickets has proved that theatre managements encourage such practices. The police busted a gang that included an engineering student and four others, besides the theatre manager, on the day of the release of Mahesh Babu-starrer ‘Atidhi’. The police investigation has revealed that the manager colluded with black marketers and sold tickets for all shows to the gang. This is nothing but cashing in on the curiosity of movie lovers, who wants to watch movies on the first day or in the first week of release. I request the police to take necessary steps to curb black marketing of cinema tickets.

Roads or death traps?

Roads are turning into virtual death traps in the city and on the outskirts. Road accidents have become order of the day. Besides erring drivers of buses and lorries, motorcycle riders and car users too are causing accidents by violating the road rules and neglecting precautions like wearing of helmet and seatbelt. The plight of those who lost their limbs in road accidents is miserable. They have to spend huge amounts of money on treatment and depend on others till they recover fully. Steps like strict implementation of road rules and improving lighting facility on highways will certainly bring down the number of road accidents.

LPG cylinders in a bad shape

Domestic LPG cylinders of public companies, particularly those of Indane, are in a very bad shape these days. Despite extreme precautions and fool-proof technology at every stage, the possibility of accident occurring can’t be ruled out. The oil companies earlier used to supply cylinders with a tag with cautions and suggestions while handling the cylinder.

This has been discontinued since a long time. In some places, delivery boys test the cylinder with soap water in front of the customer. Because of rust and faded paint, the mandatory details embossed on the cylinder are also disappearing. In case of any eventuality, the loss would be enormous. I suggest only trained personnel be allowed to handle door delivery service. They can also consider replacing manual rickshaws with auto-rickshaws and supply collapsible trolleys to delivery personnel.
