An eyewash

The condition of roads in the State has never been so bad. To some extent, this can be attributed to the torrential rain that lasted for nearly four months. Now, steps are being taken to repair the roads on a war-footing. But one cannot help saying that these efforts are mere eyewash. Only pits and ditches of considerable size are being filled up while small ones are left untouched. The authorities must take steps repair city roads thoroughly rather than cosmetic cover-up.

Faulty meters

As one who often travels in auto-rickshaws in the city, I do not hesitate in saying that a sizeable number of fare meters are either “doctored” or faulty. There is, therefore, a need to carry out regular monitoring by the authorities. The excuse that the authorities do not get complaints from the commuters cannot be taken at its face value.

Signal lights

Although signal lights are there at all important junctions in the city, it is often noticed that the orange light does not come before the green signal. For signal lights with timers it is not necessary to have the orange light before the green signal as the time indicates the gap. But for ones without timers, this is a must as motorists can be ready to drive ahead once the orange light comes. Will the authorities look into this suggestion?
