HYDERABAD: Investigators probing the murder of the graphic designer, Mallikarjun, inside a meditation centre in Kanti Sikhara apartments at Somajiguda on Saturday night surmise that a land dispute could be one of the reasons behind the crime. The centre is being run by Swami Vedananda. Swami’s associate Srinivas Reddy, a native of Karimnagar district, also suffered injuries in the incident. He was admitted to NIMS where his condition is said to be serious. “Land dispute could be the motive as Srinivas who was attending discourses in the centre was involved in such an issue at Bhongir,” a police official said on Sunday. Police believe that the assailants’ actual target was Srinivas but Mallikarjun could have been killed when he rushed to the former’s rescue when he was being attacked with knives. After barging into the flat, the accused could have got into a heated argument over the land dispute and might have resorted to stabbing Srinivas and also the designer for coming to his rescue. At least four persons are suspected to be involved in it, the police official said, adding that more details could be collected from Srinivas when his condition becomes stable. Mallikarjun used to regularly meet the Swami in connection with publication of spiritual literature and meditation centre related books. Srinivas was taking spiritual solace from the Swami after getting embroiled in the land dispute.
