Teachers back strike

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The AP State Teachers’ Union and the Progressive Democratic Front, a forum of Legislative Council independent members, on Sunday announced support to the all-India strike on October 30.

K. Narasimha Reddy and A. Lakshman, president and general secretary respectively, of the union, in a statement here said its members would press for scrapping the contributory pension fund. C. Ramaiah, chairman, said the front was opposed to ‘anti-employee’ policies of the Centre and State and that it was backing the strike to protect employees’ right.

Not participating

Members of the AP Teachers’ Guild, representing the teaching and non-teaching staff working under private-aided managements in the State, will not participate in the strike.
