Ex-legislators’ forum demands pension hike

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Former Legislators Forum has demanded that the Government take steps to enhance the pension to former MLAs from the existing Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 8,000 and above on the lines of States like Chattisgarh and Goa.

The minimum pension had been enhanced to Rs. 11,500 in Chattisgarh and Rs. 9,000 in Goa while the Parliament had also increased the minimum pension to Rs. 10,000 in two spells. However, no such measure had been initiated in Andhra Pradesh so far.

Participating in a meeting of former legislators here on Sunday, forum general secretary K. Subba Raju criticised the Government for not implementing its promises of providing free travel and medical allowance. Among the 16 States where transport was in public sector, Andhra Pradesh was the only State that was not extending free travel facility to former MLAs.
