The recent rain has made the situation worse The cost of transportation has also gone up Hosur: Rajeshwari layout, the largest private industrial estate in Hosur spread out in an expanse of 100 acres, is in a state of neglect. Lack of infrastructure such as lighting and poor condition of roads, which have turned into pools of slush following the recent rain, is causing hardship to the 700-odd entrepreneurs in the layout. G. S. Ganesh, president of Krishnagiri District Small and Tiny Industries Association, told TheHindu that the layout was formed in 1980 and was approved as a residential area for the needs of SIPCOT and SIDCO that were in the early stages of development. NightmareThe roads, which were formed during the 1980s, were yet to be laid resulting in motoring within the layout a nightmare. The recent rain had only made the situation worse. With the arterial roads leading to the layout muddy vehicles carrying cargo from SIPCOT industrial estates get stuck in the slush and have to be lifted out. As a result, the cost of transportation also goes up. The lack of proper drains and vacant space on its sides have resulted in the road developing pits as big as craters. It is being pointed out by many that unless due care was taken in the construction of storm water drains there would be no point in re-laying the roads. Employees working in the layout feel insecure to venture during the night due to lack of street lights. Begepalli panchayat in which majority of the industries are located has failed to develop roads or install street lights. Arterial roadsRecently, entrepreneurs blocked the arterial roads leading to the layout demanding the district administration to re-lay the roads. SIPCOT should takeover and undertake a massive improvement in the layout to attract investment from major companies, says M.R. Chandran, an entrepreneur.
