Shooting
NEW DELHI: Ronjan Sodhi missed the gold in the tie-shoot and settled for the silver behind Hu Binuyan of China in the double trap event of the Asian clay shooting championship in Manila on Sunday. The 27-year-old Ronjan who had won the World Cup bronze at Santo Domingo earlier in the season, matched that total with 187 out of 200. He was particularly impressive in the final with a 46 out of 50 to catch up with the Chinese who had enjoyed a four-point lead over him before the final. In the shoot-off, Binuyan who had won the bronze behind Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore at the Athens Olympics, clinched the honour 2-1. Morale boosterRonjan had shot rounds of 45, 49 and 47 in the preliminary phase. The good form should boost Ronjan’s morale as he gears up to clinch the elusive Olympic quota place in the last chance, in the Asian Championship to be staged at Kuwait in December. Rathore who has already got an Olympic quota place was ninth with a total of 134 following rounds of 44, 47 and 43. The Indian team had to settle for the bronze with 400 out of 450, behind China (419) and Kuwait (404). The results: Double trap: 1. Hu Binuyan (Chn) 187 (145)2; 2. Ronjan Sodhi 187 (141) 1; 3. Rashid Al Athba (Qat) 185; 9. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore 134; 13. Vikram Chopra 126.
