Latehar/Lohardaga (Jharkhand): Three naxalites were shot dead by security forces in an encounter in Jharkhand on Sunday. Latehar and Lohardaga district Superintendents of Police Ravikant Dhan and Subodh Prasad respectively said the bodies of the three were recovered from the spot. The Maoists had opened fire on the security forces who raided certain areas in the two districts following the shooting down of four persons at Boda village in Latehar district on Saturday night, the police officers said. Bandh peaceful PTI reports from Ranchi: A dawn-to-dusk Jharkhand strike called on Sunday in protest against the killing of 18 villagers, including former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi’s son, by Maoists at Giridih’s Chikhadiah village passed off peacefully. Life was affected during the bandh called by the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Democratic). Over 100 bandh supporters were taken into custody and policemen were deployed in strength. Train services in the Dhanbad railway division and transport services on the arterial Grand Trunk Road were affected. Trucks remained off the roads in most parts of the State affecting collieries. — PTI
