CPI(M), CPI condemn Jharkhand massacre

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India(Marxist) and the Communist Party of India have condemned Saturday’s Maoist attack at Chikhadiah village in Giridih district in Jharkhand. Eighteen persons, including Anup Marandi, the son of the former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi, were killed.

The CPI(M) asked the Central government to immediately draw up a plan for coordinated action by the security forces in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, the two States most affected by naxalite violence.

A menace

The party’s Polit Bureau, in a statement on Sunday, said the menace of terrorist violence by the Maoists has spread in Jharkhand, where the State government and security forces were unable to check it.

Expressing shock, the central secretariat of the CPI condemned the wanton killing. “The CPI urges the naxalites to realise that such ‘actions’ in the name of targeting the ‘class enemy’ and policemen, only lead to the killing of innocent poor people and a few selected public figures. Such actions cannot advance any cause and are counterproductive,” the party said.
