India posts wins

Macau: India defeated Jordan and the Philippines in Classic mixed team chess competition at the second Asian Indoor Games here on Sunday.

India dominated Jordan in the first round and won 3.5-0.5 with only Surya Shekhar Ganguly drawing his game.

Krishnan Sasikiran, Koneru Humpy and D. Harika registered facile victories.

In the evening, India beat the Philippines 3.5-0.5. Sasikiran drew on the top board, while Ganguly, Humpy and Harika won.

In women’s tenpin bowling, Pratima Hegde finished 14th and narrowly missed out on a quarterfinal birth.

Sumiti finished 26th in the same event.

There was disappointment in men’s hockey as India lost to Malaysia 2-4 with Danish and Cheyanna Bopaiah scoring the goals.

India has now won one and lost two games and has three points. It still has to play Macau and Korea.

Alok Kumar lost to Keith Boon of Singapore 2-4 in the snooker singles pre-quarterfinals. — PTI
