Narrow win for Sea Hawks

CHENNAI: M. Prithvi Raj’s unbeaten 115 and M. Parkunam’s six-wicket haul went in vain as Sea Hawks CC, thanks to E. Aravind’s 105 and C.D. Selva Kumar’s five for 85, defeated PTRC by 12 runs in a high-scoring TNCA fourth division ‘A’ league cricket match played here recently.

The scores:

Fourth division ‘A’: Prasad CC 244 for nine in 50 overs (M. Varun Kumar 40, Chandra Mouli four for 42) bt Nelson SC 150 in 38 overs (T.M. Vikram 45, V. Vasudevan five for 35).

Youngsters CC 180 in 46.4 overs (B. Krishnakumar four for 35) bt Universal RC 175 in 43.1 overs (Murugan 47, M. Satheesh Kumar four for 37, L. Shankar four for 65).

MUC 159 in 47.3 overs (S.V. Ram Kumar five for 45) lost to CCL 160 for four in 26 overs (P. Praveen Kumar 58).

Sea Hawks CC 292 for eight in 50 overs (E. Aravind 105, S. Kannan 64, C. Parkunan 40, M. Parkunam six for 65) bt PTRC 280 for nine in 50 overs (M. Prithvi Raj 115 n.o., K.Vijiram 46, C.D. Selva Kumar five for 85).

Ashok Leyland AA 237 in 48 overs (B. Lokesh 70, Sajeev Kumar 46, V. Ganesh five for 71) bt CUC 185 in 46.1 overs (B. Lokesh five for 58).

GTUC 231 in 48.3 overs (John Baptist 68, T.S. Sriram 62) bt YMCA (Royapettah) 141 in 30.5 overs (T.S. Sriram five for 37).

Play washed out

The second day of the three-day cricket match between City and Combined Districts for the C.P. Ramaswamy Iyer shield here at the RKM Vivekananda ground was washed out.

With Sunday’s rain and Monday’s wet forecast, the match faces the danger of being abandoned without a ball bowled.

Simultaneous display

As part of the Chennai District Chess Development Programme, International Masters V. Saravanan and S.P. Sethuraman will give simultaneous displays against 50 Chennai district players each at 2 p.m. on November 4 at the Hall Of Chess, J.N. Stadium.

The first 100 players to register with R. Ramakrishnan (9444555226) on or before November 2 will be admitted on payment of Rs. 50.

Players should bring their own International chess sets. Those who win or draw with the IMs will receive prizes.

Chess tournament

The Ordnance Equipment Factories South Zone chess tournament 2007 will be conducted by Engine Factory, Avadi, at Bhishma Club, HVF Estate, Avadi, in Chennai on October 30 and 31.
