Delhi Heroes advances

NEW DELHI: New Delhi Heroes brushed aside local opponent SAIL City Club 4-0 to take its expected slot in the main draw of the Osian’s Durand Cup football tournament on Sunday.

The victory took New Delhi Heroes into the pre-quarterfinals where it meets Air-India.

All the goals came in the first half through Harvinder Singh (18th and 30th minutes), Nwaeke Harrison Nwabueze (28th) and Gyan Moyon (33rd).

Harvinder began the rout when he followed a long ball from Moyon and finished with a clinical placement.

Harrison increased the lead with a booming shot from a well constructed move by Buangpuia Ralte.

There was little respite for the SAIL City Club defenders when Harvinder’s shot was deflected off the post and the tally was completed in style by Moyon, who made the most of a brilliant run on the left by Ralte. There will be no matches on Monday. — Special Correspondent
