Polish varsity recognises Namboothiris’ web site

Kozhikode: www.namboothiri.com, a web site devoted exclusively to details of Namboothiri caste, has been recognised by Jagiellonian University of Poland.

It will figure in the list of web sites of international institutes and research scholars having official cooperation with the university. Jagiellonian University’s web site ( www.filg.uj.edu.pl) has link to www.namboothiri.com.

The web site promoted by Namboothiri Web sites Trust, Kozhikode, had also been cooperating with the Indology Study and Research Department of Jagiellonian University for six years. Head of Indology Department of the university Lidia Sudyka and Cezary Galewicz had visited Kerala several times.

P. Vinod Bhattathirippad, chief coordinator of the Trust, had presented a seminar paper in Poland in 2006. The recognition for the web site came after that. Krakow Academy, established in 1364, became Jagiellonian University in 1817 and is the second oldest University in Europe.

www.namboothiri.com was started in 1999. It throws light into the history of Namboothiris, their culture, villages, traditional rituals, details of Yogakshemasabha and political and literary figures including E.M.S. Namboothirippad and V.T. Bhattathirippad. More than 50 researchers including Frits Staal and T.P. Mahadevan of the U.S., M.G.S. Narayanan, noted historian, have contributed to this web site.
