Kakinada: As a part of the “save our world campaign’, a two-day exhibition on environment education first of its kind in schools, was inaugurated at Satya Public School campus here on Monday.
“Our children are living in a world where depletion of natural resources, pollution, degradation of land and water along with depletion of Ozone layer, global warming threats have become the order of the day. It is critical that at an early age they realise the value of the World they live in and learn to love nature and care for it,” said B. Satish, school correspondent, while explaining the purpose behind the exhibition. At a press conference, he said, environment education was very much essential in the present day context wherepeople are subjected to all sorts of pollution. G Srinivasarao, principal, has regretted that many educational institutions are keeping a deaf ear on the directive of the Supreme Court making the environment education as mandatory.
Headmistress SVV Nagalakshmi has taken round the media persons to various wings of the exhibition where students explained the adverse effects of the pollution, how the eco balance is affected and the flora and fauna getting diminished due to indiscriminate deforestation.
The exhibits displayed includethe impending adverse effects on the ecology if the Rama Sethu is destroyed and the health hazards due to unhygienic surroundings.
The exhibits on renewable energy sources and conservation of natural resources have attracted the people most.
