Hospital records being doctored More classical medicines purchased NEW DELHI: A major discrepancy has been unearthed in purchase of Ayurvedic medicines in Municipal Corporation of Delhi-run hospitals in the Capital. Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra on Monday said the scam came to light after several complaints were received from patients coming in for Ayurvedic treatment. They alleged that they were not being provided with adequate medicines and were instead being prescribed costly medicines. Following the complaints, the Mayor along with Leader of the House Subhash Arya and MCD Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta visited the Ayurvedic hospital at Haiderpur and found that the hospital records were being doctored with over 85 to 90 per cent addresses of patients noted to be from outside Delhi. Also, over 65 per cent of the patients were found to be new card holders. The Mayor said a clear misappropriation of funds was taking place because despite sufficient funds being allocated for purchase of Ayurvedic medicine, patients still complained about scarcity of drugs. “It is strange that the majority of the budget is being spent on purchasing classical medicines. This is definitely being done to benefit some special companies. It cannot be denied that there is connivance of certain employees and they are indulging in corrupt practices,” the Mayor said. The Mayor directed the Municipal Commissioner to investigate the matter to safeguard the interests of poor patients.
