TIRUPATI: The Republican Party of India (RPI) has blamed both the TDP and Congress for the sad plight of the Dalits and said that both the parties sail in the same boat when it comes to the implementation of SC/ST welfare schemes.
As for the TDP, the RPI in a statement signed by its State general secretary P. Anjaiah and Tirupati city convenor A. Subramanyam - blamed its president N. Chandrababu Naidu for diluting the prohibition policy, which was clamped in the State by TDP founder and former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao.
Similarly, it lashed at the Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy for the alleged diversion of the funds earmarked for social security measures of SCs and STs and called it a fraud on the downtrodden whose cause the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had upper most in her mind and soul.
The RPI leaders grilled both Chandrababu Naidu and Rajasekhara Reddy for liberally using the portraits and banners of their leaders - late NTR and Indira Gandhi during elections and later ditching the downtrodden.
The RPI felt action merely on the belt-shop operators would be an eye-wash without demolishing the liquor cartels and the whole-sale dealers by cancelling their licences. If the Chief Minister is really honest on the issue, he should prove it by imposing a total prohibition in the State, the RPI said in the statement.
Among its other demands are creation of a nodel agency to run the affairs of the Social Welfare department.
