TIRUPATI: K. Ramamoorthy Naidu, senior member, University Grants Commission (UGC), has favoured ‘Central University’ status for Dravidian University at Kuppam, the confluence of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
He made this demand by pointing out that it was the only university belonging to and run by all the southern States. Prof. Naidu made this observation at the two-day orientation programme for primary school teachers on ‘Disabilities in Children’, conducted as part of the varsity’s decennial celebrations that concluded at the ‘Emencau House’ on Monday.
He promised to do his best to get the ‘central’ status for Dravidian University which was meeting the higher education needs with seven schools and 20 departments.
Chittoor Zilla Parishad Chairman M. Subramanyam Reddy inaugurated the event and assured all support for the varsity’s development. G. Lokanatha Reddy, Dean, School of Education and Human Resource Development, Registrar P. Rajasekhara Reddy and others spoke.
