SHIMLA: The water crisis hitting Shimla for the past seven months has reached its peak, after the last water supply line from Gumma, near Mashobara, was also damaged on Saturday. The city went without proper water supply for the fourth consecutive day on Monday. Despite a regular monsoon this year, the Municipal Corporation has been unable to provide water to all suburbs regularly. Barring a few VIP areas that are given water regularly by Municipal Corporation tankers, most areas have been getting water once in a day for the third day now. Though the Municipal authorities claim that repair work is being done on a war footing, sources say that water scarcity will rule the scene even in the coming week. The Government has been overstepping all the deadlines for resuming a regular water supply, the last being October 2. The Municipal Corporation states leakage as the main cause for the menace. “We are supplying water through tankers where ever there is an urgent demand,” says Mayor Narender Kataria. The next deadline announced by the Government is on Diwali.
