dated October 30, 1957: Middle East defence

King Feisal of Iraq and the Shah of Iran on October 28 pledged themselves to continue efforts to strengthen the five-nation Baghdad Middle East defence pact. Their countries are united in this pact with Britain, Turkey and Pakistan. In a joint communiqué issued at the end of King Feisal’s 12-day state visit to Iran, the two monarchs described the pact as “the most practicable instrument to maintain understanding and secure peace and order in the region.”
