Army denies bullet came from its weapon

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: “It is my daughter today and it could be another person tomorrow. There should be a definite action to prevent injuries resulting from stray bullets coming out from the shooting range.”

These were the words of an upset Chipa Jeena, mother of Neharika Jeena, the moped rider injured by a stray bullet on Friday.

Ms. Chipa said the incident occurred at a time when they were looking for a match for Ms. Jeena, eldest of the four girls.

Meanwhile, the Army denied responsibility in the incident. Brigadier Clement Samuel, Commander of Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area, described it as improbable. “We have not carried out any firing at 1930 hours (7.30 p.m.) on Friday,” Brig. Samuel said and added that target practices were done in mornings.
